Summary

The District is seeking Substitute Paraeducators to support student(s) in a variety of school environments, including classrooms, areas outside the classroom or building, physical education, and other school settings. This role involves providing instructional assistance and implementing strategies both in and out of the classroom to support certified staff. Paraeducators may work with students individually, in small or large groups, or within structured settings.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities may include supporting students who require behavior management, providing 1:1 assistance, implementing behavior interventions for high-risk students, and assisting children with developmental delays. The position may also involve supporting occupational or physical therapy activities. Paraeducators will help students complete academic tasks and skills (reading, language, mathematics) and must be able to operate word-processing and computer equipment.

Previous experience working with children with significant developmental delays and proficiency in ABA methodology is preferred.

 Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of child development and the special needs of children with disabilities.
  • Ability to model and monitor appropriate student behavior.
  • Maintains confidentiality and demonstrates respect when working with students, parents and teachers.
  • Previous experience working with students in an educational setting is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children with significant disabilities is preferred.
  • Evidence of interest in supporting learning experiences, with the ability to learn and perform essential duties.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with students, staff, and the public.
  • Skills, ability, and commitment to perform Parent-Designated Adult (PDA) activities, including administering diabetes care such as carbohydrate calculations, insulin administration, communicating necessary information to parents/caregivers, and implementing Individual Healthcare Plans for medical needs under the supervision of the school nurse.

Education/Training:

  • Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Be at least eighteen years of age.
  • Provide proof of High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Current First Aid/CPR Card or willingness to obtain promptly.
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training courses through the District’s online training system, Vector.
