Summary

The Colville School District is now accepting applications for a Nutritional Specialist, to work 3.5 hours/day under the supervision of the Nutrition Director. This position has the responsibility of performing assigned tasks, which include, but are not limited to, food preparation, cooking/baking, serving meals, record keeping, keyboarding, computer data entry, maintaining necessary supplies to perform his/her duties, and housekeeping.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work as a positive and collaborative member of the food service staff to foster the primary goals of the food service program and the Colville School District.
  • Work enthusiastically and with a good attitude towards fellow staff members, students, and the community, and work as a member of the food service team.
  • Performs assigned tasks including, but not limited to, food preparation, cooking/baking, serving meals, record keeping, keyboarding, computer data entry, maintaining necessary supplies to perform his/her duties, and housekeeping.
  • Implements defined standards of sanitation for personnel, food preparation, kitchen equipment, and physical plant.
  • Implements defined standards of safety for personnel, equipment, and physical plant.
  • Participates in the preparation of food within an established production system following standardized recipes, preparation and service methods, and food handling techniques to ensure acceptable standards.
  • Follows established procedures for service and distribution of meals.
  • Participates in preparation and service of planned meals for special activities.
  • Requisitions food and/or supplies for workstations.
  • Maintains required forms and records as assigned.
  • Assumes responsibility as a food service employee, follows work assignments, and maintains workstation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of departmental regulations under routine procedures and participates in programs for self-development and development of others.
  • Recognizes the chain of command, grievance procedures, and levels of job responsibilities.
  • Responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of work area at all times.
  • Attends relevant training classes and workshops.
  • Act as or fill in for site supervisor.
  • Perform clerking duties.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Know components required for federal reimbursable meals.
  • Prior experience in salad bar preparation and display, cooking, and baking.
  • Demonstrated acceptance of responsibility and flexibility.
  • Must take initiative and be punctual and dependable.
  • Must have a neat, clean appearance.
  • Demonstrated the ability to work with fellow employees, and, preferably, school-age children.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the school.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Some computer knowledge preferred.
  • Has a current food handlers’ card or willingness and ability to get one upon hire.

 

Salary Schedule

Position follows student calendar (summers off, Christmas break off, spring break off, etc.).
