Summary
The Colville School District is seeking a Paraeducator Level II to support students with diverse learning, communication, physical, and behavioral needs. This position serves students in a self-contained classroom and in a variety of school settings, including general education environments, PE, and outdoor areas.
Duties include providing instructional support to individual students and small or large groups; assisting with behavior support strategies; implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), Emergency Response Protocols (ERPs), and IEP-directed supports; and collaborating with certified staff and related service providers. Candidates may provide 1:1 assistance as assigned.
This position requires responding appropriately to a range of challenging behaviors. It may also involve assisting students with personal care needs, including toileting, diapering, hygiene, tube feeding, and other health-related procedures as permitted by training and district guidelines.
The paraeducator will continue planned instructional activities during temporary teacher absences and will collect and enter student data using computers and other technology.
Prior successful experience supporting students with significant developmental, behavioral, emotional, or adaptive needs is preferred. The district seeks candidates who are committed to supporting students with a wide range of abilities in a respectful, inclusive, and professional manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Regular and dependable attendance is required to ensure students receive consistent support and to perform all essential functions of this position.
- Provide instructional support to students in a variety of settings, including classrooms, small/large groups, and structured environments.
- Assist students with academic, behavioral, adaptive, and life-skill tasks as directed by certified staff.
- Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), Emergency Response Protocols (ERPs), and other student-specific support strategies.
- Support students in developing self-regulation, communication, and social skills.
- Assist with supervision and safety in classrooms, hallways, outdoor areas, and other school environments.
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviors, following training and district procedures.
- Provide personal-care assistance, which may include toileting, diapering, feeding, hygiene needs, and mobility support.
- After required training, assist with health-related procedures such as medication administration, G-tube feeding, or catheterization as allowed by district guidelines.
- Continue planned instructional activities during brief teacher absences.
- Collect and record data using computers and other devices.
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and other staff to support student learning and engagement.

- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unaided and may lift more than 50 pounds with assistance from another person or a lift assist.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and demonstrate significant fine finger dexterity.
Work Environment

- The employee will primarily work indoors but will also perform duties outdoors as required.
- The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate to loud.

Qualifications

- Education/Training
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must meet one of the following requirements:
- Complete and pass the ETS ParaPro Praxis Assessment as published by Professional Education Standards Board (PESB) upon hire. (The ETS ParaPro assessment assesses knowledge and skills in reading, writing, math, and assisting classroom instruction.) Colville School District will lead the incumbent through the testing process; however, a passing score must be achieved upon hire;
- Hold an associate of arts degree;
- Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education; or
- Have completed a registered apprenticeship program as defined by PESB.
- Satisfy the Fundamental Course of Study (FCS) per the Professional Education Standards Board (PESB) within the first year of employment.
- Obtain and maintain active First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of employment, and biannually thereafter. First Aid/CPR training will be provided by the district.
- Complete Right Response (de-escalation) training within the first year of employment, and biannually thereafter.
- A favorable reporting of a state and national background check is required.
- Skills/Abilities
- Experience supporting children or youth with significant learning, behavioral, or developmental needs preferred.
- Ability to remain calm, supportive, and professional during challenging situations.
- Comfortable assisting with personal care tasks after training.
- Ability to learn and implement instructional and behavior-support strategies.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff.
- Ability to follow detailed plans, safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
