Summary
Colville School District is now accepting applications for a full-time Groundskeeper I or II. This position is responsible for maintaining district facilities and grounds in a safe, clean, and high-quality operating condition to ensure they are available for full educational use at all times. General duties include, but not limited to: grounds maintenance, snow removal, warehouse delivery work, technical support for Maintenance Department operations, general maintenance tasks, mechanical operation and repair, and a variety of cleaning responsibilities. Successful performance of this position requires working knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment; HVAC systems; plumbing; electrical practices; carpentry; masonry; painting; roofing; welding; equipment operation; cleaning operations; groundskeeping and turf care; snow removal; and other skills necessary to maintain and repair school district facilities and grounds. Preference will be given to journeyman-level certification(s).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive, prioritize, and complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintain the physical plant and grounds at all school district facilities.
- Perform groundskeeping duties, including snow removal.
- Plows and apply salt to driveways, parking areas, walkways, and playgrounds.
- Detect, diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical, plumbing, roofing, carpentry, masonry, and metal work as directed.
- Perform warehouse duties, including the delivery of inventory, supplies, and equipment to district facilities and job sites.
- Perform a variety of maintenance, grounds, mechanical, and cleaning tasks requiring knowledge of mechanical equipment, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical practices, carpentry, masonry, painting, roofing, welding, equipment operation, and related skills.
- Sprays designated grounds areas according to established maintenance and safety guidelines.
- Maintain and repair irrigation systems operation.
- Complete new installations when required.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of mechanical areas; ensure materials are stored in an orderly manner.
- Safely operate and maintain all applicable mechanical equipment, tools, and district vehicles in proper working condition.
- Maintains all required forms, documentation, and records related to mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems as directed.
- Maintain accurate records of material usage and labor performed.
- Inspect completed work to ensure work areas are clean and properly restored.
- Perform general cleaning and maintenance tasks to keep tools and equipment clean and operable.
- Perform all duties and work assignments in accordance with School Board policies.
- Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Ensure all equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques, including those related to lifting, climbing, and equipment operation.
- Correct unsafe working conditions when possible and promptly report conditions that cannot be corrected to a supervisor.
- Assist other skilled trades and maintenance personnel with repairs as directed.
- Respond to emergency calls and maintenance or grounds-related situations, both during and outside of normal working hours.
- Provide support for special events, including graduations and athletic events, etc. as directed.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and the general public to promote positive customer service.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

- The employee must be able to use hand and power tools, meters, gauges, welding equipment, ladders, hoists, pipe benders, and propane torches.
- The employee must be able to operate tractors, heavy equipment, and light trucks or vans.
- The employee is regularly required to stand, talk, hear, taste, and smell.
- The employee is frequently required to handle and feel objects, tools, or controls and must be able to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee will be required to lift, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, climb, and perform physical labor for shifts lasting up to ten hours.
- The employee must be capable of lifting and moving up to 70 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee must have flexibility of the hands.

Minimum Qualifications – All Levels (Groundskeeper I & II)
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Washington driver’s license required.
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL) required or the ability to obtain one within one year of hire.
- Recent experience in multiple trade areas or plant maintenance preferred.
- Plumbing and snow plowing experience preferred.
- Thorough understanding of general building maintenance required.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Experience operating heavy equipment highly desired.
- Must be of good physical health and capable of lifting up to 70 pounds.
- Pleasant, cooperative demeanor with the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and the community.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a “can-do” approach.
- Ability to operate a computer and assigned software, including email.
- Ability to safely and effectively use hand and power tools.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Must receive a favorable reporting of a state and national fingerprinting background check.
Groundskeeper I – Additional / Position-Specific Qualifications
- Experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or related trades is strongly preferred.
Groundskeeper II – Additional / Position-Specific Qualifications
- Valid Washington State Pesticide Applicator License, required.
- 5 years of commercial turf management preferred.
- Must have working knowledge of irrigation system operation and repair.
