Summary

The Colville School District is seeking a paraeducator for the 2026-2027 school year at Colville Junior High School to support students as part of our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. This position focuses on providing academic and behavioral support in small-group or individual settings under the direction of certified staff.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Regular and dependable attendance is required to ensure students receive consistent support and to perform all essential functions of this position.
  • Provide instructional support for students receiving tiered interventions.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups using district-approved intervention programs and strategies.
  • Assist teachers with implementing classroom routines and reinforcing learning goals.
  • Support positive student behavior and help maintain a safe, respectful learning environment.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times, which may include recess, lunch, arrival, dismissal, or bus transitions.
  • Collect and record student progress data as directed by certified staff.
  • Use computers and other technology to support instruction and documentation.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to help students meet learning and behavior expectations.

  • The employee must be able to pursue a student who leaves the immediate contact area.
  • The employee must be able to escort a student back to the building or classroom when misbehavior occurs.
  • The employee must appropriately respond to aggressive, unpleasant, socially inappropriate, or maladaptive behaviors (e.g., occasional spitting, biting, hitting, kicking, scratching, or uninvited sharing of bodily fluids).
  • The employee must be able to safely lift and/or physically support a student when necessary to maintain the safety of the student and others.
  • The employee must be able to work with medically fragile children.
  • The employee must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally when carrying, pushing, or pulling objects.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unaided and may lift more than 50 pounds with assistance from another person or a lift assist.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, and demonstrate significant fine finger dexterity.

 Work Environment

  • The employee will primarily work indoors but will also perform duties outdoors as required.
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate to loud.

 Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Education/Training
    • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
    • Provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent.
    • Must meet one of the following requirements:
      • Complete and pass the ETS ParaPro Praxis Assessment as published by Professional Education Standards Board (PESB) upon hire. (The ETS ParaPro assessment assesses knowledge and skills in reading, writing, math, and assisting classroom instruction.) Colville School District will lead the incumbent through the testing process; however, a passing score must be achieved upon hire;
      • Hold an associate of arts degree;
      • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an institution of higher education; or
      • Have completed a registered apprenticeship program as defined by PESB.
    • Satisfy the Fundamental Course of Study (FCS) per the Professional Education Standards Board (PESB) within the first year of employment.
    • Obtain and maintain active First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of employment, and biannually thereafter. First Aid/CPR training will be provided by the district.
    • Complete Right Response (de-escalation) training within the first year of employment, and biannually thereafter.
    • A favorable reporting of a state and national background is required
